KUALA LUMPUR – Just two hours after publishing a second “This Is Dengki Ke” playlist, this time on Apple Music, reports have surfaced of graphic designer Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin’s arrest.
It is understood that he is being brought to the Dang Wangi police station over two such playlists, and is expected to be investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Sedition Act 1948.
Sevan Doraisamy, executive director of human rights outfit Suaram, confirmed Fahmi’s arrest to The Vibes.
He said he was informed by an investigating officer that the artist will be taken to the Dang Wangi station.
“We have yet to confirm if he (Fahmi) is (already) at Dang Wangi.”
The first playlist went up two days ago on Spotify.
Among its 101 tracks are punk rock band Sex Pistols’ God Save the Queen, rock band Queen’s Jealousy, the late John Lennon’s Jealous Again, Herlina Effendi’s Mengapa Hatimu Dengki, and Lou Monte’s Jealous of You.
The songs contain words like “jealous” and “dengki” either in their title or lyrics, or share the theme.
Choosing to name the playlists “This Is Dengki Ke” is understood to be a satirical take on an Instagram comment by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.
The queen made the comment “Dengki ke? (Are you jealous?)” on April 19 after a netizen asked whether chefs at the palace have been vaccinated against Covid-19, after Tunku Azizah posted photos of dishes prepared by her and the palace’s kitchen crew.
This came about after an Asia Sentinel report last week accused the royal family of hoarding 2,000 doses of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, which has yet to be approved for use.
Tunku Azizah disabled her Instagram account on Monday, believed to be over the multiple queries posed to her on the allegations. – The Vibes, April 23, 2021
